Benefits to launch even more than your career
Competitive Salary
Our salaries for civilian employees compare well within the employment marketplace. All are based on years of expertise, job title and location. Additionally, for some positions, we offer compensation for relocation and recruitment, both of which come with a one-year service agreement.
Insurance Options
The Space Force offers civilian employees and their families premier insurance options, with no waiting period to qualify. These include pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts with no out-of-pocket healthcare costs, Dental and Vision programs, Long Term Care Insurance and Group Life Insurance.
Retirement Benefits
The Space Force offers immediate coverage through a tiered Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which includes a basic benefits plan, Social Security and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
The Thrift Savings Plan is similar to a 401(k), where you can transfer or rollover funds from an existing plan into your account, in which you’ll instantly receive 1% agency contributions, with up to 5% matching. Additionally, members can buy back military time and put it towards their civilian retirement.
Education Opportunities
The Space Force provides a Federal Student Loan Repayment Program, up to $10,000 a year for a maximum of six years with up to a three-year service agreement dependent on the amount of funds awarded.
Additionally, the Space Force offers full-time paid internships (for students currently attending college or who have recently graduated) with hands-on training and available tuition assistance. Once successfully completed, students are offered a full-time position with the Space Force.
Space Force Civilians have several opportunities to continue their education both formally and informally.
Work-life Balance
We offer 13 days of paid vacation (with up to 26 days, based on length of employment), 13 days of sick leave and 10 federal holidays each year.
Additionally, we maximize the use of telework when possible. Many of our opportunities are now considered hybrid, where you can work part time or full time remotely.
As a Space Force Civilian employee, you’ll likely work at a nearby Space Force base, where we offer many family-friendly amenities such as child care, entertainment, shopping and recreation facilities. Giving you plenty of ways to enjoy time outside of work hours, all within a close vicinity.
